Do Dogs Know

Not too much quilting going on today. A week ago one of our two Chi's started crying every time my son walked out the door. I'm talking howling, loud, for a good 30 minutes and waits at the window for him. He is the one she bonded with right away when we first got her as a 4 week only pup. When he goes to the restroom she waits at the door for him and follows him all around the house. Chris,my son will be leaving to Graduate school next month and I'm wondering if maybe she senses he is leaving. He told me last night she went to his room five time wanting to get in bed with him. I'm wondering if she might be having nightmares. Chiquita(the pup) has always been high strung and is always running around. She is sensitive to every sound around her, she just isn't a calm little dog, except when she is with Chris. Anybody ever experience something like this with a pet? Chris says she has severe separation anxiety. ****************** Gratitudes 1. My son, Chris, he is such a good son. 2. Chiquita, she keeps everyone on their toes. 3. All the birds in my back yard. 4. Having a husband with a green thumb.

What a handsome young man your son is. Hard to say about little Chiquita--they probably know a lot more instinctively than we given them credit for.

My aunt used to have one called "Money" (because of what he cost her)--nervous little thing but I guess part of that is the breed.

Pets are very intuitive and smarter than we think. Of course your son is so handsome that anyone would be sad if he were leaving!

I have a chi who is the exact same way. He has gotten used to me being home this summer since I am not teaching right now and he wines when I leave. He is only happy when he can completely know where I am and see me at all times.

Thanks for the compliments on my boy.Chris will be living on campus but will not be taking his duaghter, that's what I call her.He will be in a two year program and hopefully come home for holidays and such. I'm going to miss that kid. He is the only one of my three boys who has a love for books like me. He'll be in Arizona so I'll get to visit the Grand Canyon.

Ohh, he's nice looking!

Yeah, I think they pick up quite a bit from us.

The Chihuahuas that tremble all the time always make me feel bad for them - they just look so scared!

I didn't get the chi fabric for this quilt but Robert Kaufman makes a chi fabric that is so cute! It comes in several colors and I can't wait for my order to come in.

My dogs have always picked up on things like that. Sometimes it is obvious because you actually get down a suitcase, but at other times, they seem to know without an obvious clue. They also pick up on stress and sadness before humans...

When we first inherited our dog my son was living at home and was the primary caretaker. The dog was really attached to him and would scratch at his door if Adam was in his room and the door was closed

As Adam was gone more for school and work the dog became more attached to me because he spent more time with me. Adam moved out in November and I thought Chesty would miss him but he's done fine.

My husband does say that he has an unnatural attachment to me but I think that's just jealousy talking!

Sounds like Chi does know that something is up. I would make sure to keep a one of your son's dirty shirts around so that Chi can make a bed out of it and smell him. He'll probably be okay, but just drive you crazy until he gets used to the new situation!
