Back From New York

I can't tell you how much fun I had with my hubby and son in New York. We were there for 6 days and we did something every single day. I knew I was going to walk and be on the Subway trains but my body must have gone into shock because I wanted to crawl home the first night. I was so tired from the walking, running to catch trains and climbing stairs. It's so much easier to just get in your car and go :) We met up with my son's girlfriend  at Lambardi's Pizzeria, who has excellent pizza by the way. I loved walking through Little Italy with it's outdoor cafe's and restaurants. I swear I heard the Godfather talking at a table. We went to see Wicked and it was fantastic and we loved every moment of it. We went to the Statue Of Liberty and ate hot dogs on the grounds. Those were the best hot dogs or I was just very hungry. We went to the Natural History Museum and loved seeing the big blue whale.
As a sewer though I was in heaven while walking the Garment District and seeing store after store of fabric, trims, buttons, ribbons, and jewelry supplies. I just loved being there. I wanted to go to The City Quilter quilt store but the day we chose to go it was closed. Bummer! We walked blocks and blocks to get to, Purl, another yarn/quilt store. They only had about half a wall of fabric and it was so different to the quilt fabric I'm used to seeing in TX. After all that walking in the drizzle I had to buy something so I bought some very pretty and VERY expensive ($19 a yard) two yards of fabric. I also bought a panel of some very very cute paper doll fabric that was $12 a panel. Oh yea, and today my cousin from Illinois tells me she had just found the same fabric for $6.50 a panel, but hey, I got mine in NYC. LOL. Oh, I also got to go to Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken, you know, the guy with the cake reality show. Their cookies and cupcakes are so so good.

Estee, I'm so jealous. I don't fly so there is no chance I'll ever get to NYC. Wow you had a lot of fun. I love that bakery! You will have those wonderful memories forever now. I'm so happy for you. Glad you are home, safe and sound. You better rest now, sounds like you need to put your feet up. Tee Hee!!! Have a restful weekend. :)))

NYC is wonderful isn't it. When we were there most of the shops in the garment district were closed for the weekend. I was a bit disappointed with that but got some trims and M&J Trims. I made it to the City Quilter but was actually a bit disappointed with it. I've been in many bigger quilt shops. Of course, I still got fabric, just like you. Lol.

Gloria, I'm not crazy about flying and that trip was my 4th on a plane. The first 3 were have to's but I was determined to go this time and on the way back I wasn't nervous at all.I think I hurt my knee climbing the stairs in the subway so many times because it's still hurting.

Joyce,I did love the city but I guess I was expecting to see Texas size quilt stores and I didn't. I wish I had gone several times to the garment district but not enough time. I'm just grateful my son took me to all the stores I had on my list and without complaining. I wanted to buy more machine feet but wasn't sure if they fit my machine. Turns out he ones i bought did fit.

Estee, it sounds like a wonderful trip. How lucky you are! And the pics are just great. Thanks for sharing. Please post a picture of your fabric or was it the one we already see in you photos? What will you make with it?

Angie the fabric in the picture is what I bought in NY.Stores in the garment district doesn't have many cotton fabrics for quilters.I will be putting that fabric into a quilt. It was made in Japan and is very soft not like our American cottons.I must find out more about it. I don't remember what it said ont he bolt.
